Geometry of Circles (1979)
Director unknown; usually credited to Philip Glass (Children’s Television Workshop)
This hypnotic piece, which simply shows the geometric configuration (and possibilities) of circles and color, is often credited as being created by composer Philip Glass. Certainly Glass’s music, which itself seems split into various and precise mathematical configurations, matches the animation perfectly. And Glass did indeed compose the music specifically for this cartoon, which was shown on Sesame Street. It’s an amazing work of minimalism and meter, shape and color, and utter precision.
